Senior Integrated Geologist in Russia

Job profile summary:

The integrated geologist role is one of the key senior technical leadership roles that is appointed for the subsurface discipline within Moscow based BP Russia upstream team. The role reports to VP reservoir development and based in Moscow.
The intent of the role is to drive business value through the consistent application of deep technical and functional expertise using the BP and industry common processes, workflows, practices, guides and toolkits (where appropriate) ensuring that geological activity and products directly impact defined key focus areas and business delivery. The individual will play a key role in managing discipline capability to ensure that Geological products are tailored to impact business requirements and decisions.
The person will be involved in the subsurface activities supporting existing BP JVs (Kharampur and Taas-Yuryakh) and will also be actively engaged in evaluating new business development opportunities, working across the functions to prepare integrated valuations and recommendations.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide assurance for all Geological activity in the region in accordance with BP functional and industry best practises.
  • Integrated geological analysis, interpretation and building the geological work plan in service of business delivery aligned with BP/Rosneft/JV priorities.
  • Identify technical studies and projects to improve or better understand the data and integration of these products for full field characterisation
  • Engage with Rosneft, JVs and partners in formal meetings, coordinate the input to more focused geological workshops
  • Coach national staff to ensure that workflows and technical standards are understood and achieved to a required standard
  • Identify capability gaps & development needs and implement learning opportunities through individual at workstation training or more formal training.


Essential education:
  • Masters or higher degree in geology, geophysics other related discipline or equivalent

Essential experience and requirements:
  • At least 15 years of relevant working experience, ideally with NOJV/OBO experience.
  • A skilled integrator who is widely experienced across multiple basins in a variety of depositional, structural and stratigraphic contexts.
  • Understanding and experience in managing carbonate reservoir.
  • Understanding of onshore gas and oil developments ranging from mature waterflood to low permeability gas.
  • Can generate and construct new ideas, concepts and models for both existing and new exploration opportunities and can carry forward multiple alternative models for prospect- and play-based exploration.
  • Able to critically assess and influence all aspects of depletion planning and lead the development of the ISD & HRIP mapping.
  • Deep understanding, knowledge and experience of using ISD products within associated business processes and technical workflows, across the subsurface value chain and has experience defining the key uncertainties and risks in an ISD.
  • Experienced in applying reservoir description products to reservoir performance predictions (RPP) and focused on continually reducing subsurface uncertainty, improving predictability, reliability and quality.
  • Ability to understand the principles behind the BP processes and customize to RN culture and technical requirements
  • Able to lead multi-disciplinary risk management activity such as framing sessions, risk raising sessions and has acted as a regional advocate for SURM processes and helps guide others to access relevant case histories, techniques and lessons learnt.
  • Have a proven track record of mentoring and technical coaching of their peers.

Desirable criteria:
  • Can apply Rock Property Description and Fluid Property Description workflows, coaching less experienced colleagues and seeking help from SMEs as appropriate
  • Has been trained under the Discovered Resources Management (DRM) policy and can plan and lead the delivery of a Resource Progression Plans.
  • Can advise on risk impacts, probabilities and consequences, and risk management plans, consulted for decision analysis.
  • Able to assimilate and analyse large, complex subsurface datasets and has coordinated the application of appropriate data science processes and platforms during subsurface studies
  • Experience in managing low permeability tight reservoirs
  • Experience of working with culturally diverse teams and respect of other cultures.
  • Russian Language skill is beneficial.
